Several years ago we had a large Scotch Pine in the living room at Christmas. All five of us had a hand in decorating the tree. After three weeks in the house it was getting dry in spite of having the base in water. Open burning was allowed at the time and Norm and I took the tree out to the back yard for disposal.
I laid the tree on its side and touched the dry needles with a burning rolled up newspaper. Norm and I were astonished when the tree literally exploded in flame. We jumped back in disbelief. After the tree was completely burned, we slowly made our way back to the house wondering if we would ever trust a tree in the house again.
It was December of 1967. That big beautiful Scotch Pine was our last real tree in the house at Christmas.
