Commercial Alert, a consumer advocacy group, has asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether stealth campaigns violate rules against deceptive advertising.
Commercial Alert says that many companies are creating and maintaining blogs for the purpose of selling products.
These blogs are intended to deceive the reader into thinking the blog is maintained by someone other than the company behind the blog.
A good example of this type of deception would be a blog supposedly written by a doctor that touts the medical advantages of a particular drug.
