Electric taxis for New York City?

A company called Hybrid Technologies had been working on plans to bring all-electric taxis to New York.

Their plans include Chrysler PT Cruiser (upper photo) and Ford Fusion (lower photo).

Last fall New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) approved hybrid vehicles for taxi use. The hybrids approved are:

Ford Escape
Mercury Mariner
Toyota Highlander
Toyota Prius
Honda Accord
Honda Civic
Lexus Rx 400h

The addition of the PT Cruiser and Ford Fusion electric conversions will make New York’s yellow cabs look green.

Big and tall people will hope the gas guzzling Crown Victoria cabs won’t all disappear from the streets of New York.

It won't be easy for a big person to squeeze into the back seat of a Fusion.
