The Democrats really seem to be in a panic heading down the 2006 election home stretch.
Below are some indicators that show the cause of the consternation within the Democratic Party:
First there is the recent “Bush led turnaround” report by Larry Kudlow who is right 95% of the time. Link
Second, there are the reports that consumer confidence is up. This is always bad news for the Democrats in an “off-year” election. In fact a report on My Way says consumer confidence is higher than expected. Link
Third, the Dow closed at a near record. In fact, Wall Street surged even higher Thursday, with the Dow closing at the second highest level ever! Again, this is not good news for the Democrats who were hoping to use a bad economy and sagging stock prices to scare voters. Link
Fourth, is the desperate attempt by the Democrats to call a closed session in the House of Representatives to discuss the classified intelligence analysis on global terrorism. This would have been the first closed session since July 1983. The attempt failed by a vote of 171-217. Link
Adding insult to injury is the disclosure by former FBI agent Dan Coleman that Clinton never approved a plan to kill bin Laden as reported here.
This comes after the heated exchange when Mike Wallace interviewed Bill Clinton about his inaction after the 1993 truck bomb went off in the lower level of the World Trade Center. That’s the interview when Clinton blew his cool as reported here.
Bill Clinton probably expected to be treated with silk gloves like in his old CNN interviews where he was never asked the hard questions. I guess that’s why some say CNN stands for the Clinton News Network.
The shoe was on the other foot this time and he got madder’n a wet hen! Now he knows how conservatives are treated in the media and he doesn’t like it!
Funny how he came up with fuzzy history during that interview - as illustrated in the cartoon below:
(click on cartoon to enlarge)We wonder how many on Bill Clinton’s staff got fired after the Wallace interview.
I almost forgot to mention the new ad blitz planned by the Republicans. The ads, will match the Democrats negative approach but with a flair engineered by Karl Rove. After much research, the ads will uncover a lot of unflattering truths about dozens of liberal candidates in tight races.
The Democrats may win control of the House in November, but it won’t be the “cake walk” they once predicted.
