Consumers are killing economy? Why not just keep blaming Bush?

There is a Time Magazine online report titled: How the newly prudent consumer is killing the economy.

Up until now liberal leaning publications like Time Magazine have been blaming Bush for the economy. Now that they have realized the economy has worsened since Barack Obama moved into the White House, it's time to find another culprit. Time Magazine has found one -- it's prudent consumers.

Today's consumers are increasingly likely to pay off credit card bills in full, skip vacations, dine out less, hold off on buying big-ticket items like new cars, and even trim everyday expenses by, say, subbing a generic cereal for Kellogg’s Corn Flakes.

They’re avoiding debt like the plague, and because consumer spending accounts for 70% of economic activity in the U.S., the widespread scaling back by consumers is seriously hampering the economy’s recovery.

If were'nt for the failed economic programs by the current adminiatration such as the various stimulus plans, cash for clunkers program, various bailouts, etc., there would be no need to blame prudent consumers!

It's the Obama recession that has created the "newly prudent consumer" and now it's the consumers fault? Really?

Man riding in plane watches crooks rob his home

Two alleged burglars are behind bars, after being spotted from the air -- by the man whose house was being robbed.

Steven Lynn, who lives in northeast Arkansas, was riding in his buddy's Cessna when two burglars were spotted at his house.

Calling 911 from his cell phone he was able to give law enforcement the exact route taken by the robbers while tracking them from the air.

New Obama jobs plan: give a speech

President Obama has requested a joint session of Congress next week to deliver his jobs speech directly to lawmakers.

In a letter to congressional leaders requesting the Sept. 7 slot, the president said he will urge Congress to put aside politics and focus on creating jobs during the 8 p.m. speech.

"Put aside politics and focus on jobs" - translation: accept the White House plan with no opposition.

The speech will fall on the same night Texas Gov. Rick Perry makes his debut on the GOP 2012 debate stage. The Republican presidential field is set to take part in a debate, also scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif.

When asked if the speech was purposefully scheduled the same night as the Republican debate, White House press secretary Jay Carney said "of course not."

On Tuesday during a speech in Minnesota, Obama said as many as 1 million new jobs could be created through a range of proposals.

Republicans have warned they will resist any new spending measures to push the economy forward, warning they do not want to add to the deficit. They also have argued that the 2009 economic stimulus package backed by Obama was a failure.

House Republicans have announced a fall agenda focused on two tax-cutting measures and a series of votes on legislation that would roll back regulations the GOP argues are holding back growth.

Copper thieves leave Palm Beach dark along I-95

The next time you drive on I-95 and notice a street light is out you may have just witnessed the scene of a crime.

Thieves are breaking into the bases of light poles along I-95 in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties, trying to get at the valuable copper inside.

Media and the boy who cried wolf

A look at the ovecovered storm by a reporter who missed it all but is not afraid to criticize his compatriots.

It's a classic case of the media covering whether it overcovered Hurricane Irene.

The report was written by a reporter who was critical of the media for putting the scariest face possible on a storm that turned out not to be that scary.

There was shot after shot of reporters in city centers doing their best to turn the storm into The Day After Tomorrow.

One guided the camera to a shot of "dangerous flying debris" in midtown [which was] literally, a small pile of twigs and umbrellas, which basically looked like any Manhattan street corner after a thunderstorm.

One did a man-in-the-street interview in a not-too-rainy Philadelphia with a passerby who looked like he was going out to get bagels.

Another—in lower Manhattan, where there had been predictions of a deadly "wall of water"—pointed out dramatically at the "floodwater," which was up to her ankles, at high tide.

The handful of scary video shots—big waves in a New Jersey marina, an oceanside shack crashing against a boardwalk—looped over and over and over.

It was disaster by editing.

The media can take a lesson from the boy who cried wolf: after a while people stop listening to a liar even if he is telling the truth.

Will the president's drunk-driving uncle get special treatment?

President Obama’s accused drunken-driving uncle (pictured) — who was busted after a near collision with a Framingham cop — has had a valid Social Security number for at least 19 years, despite being an illegal immigrant ordered to be deported back to Kenya.

The long-lost uncle, whose sister, Zeituni Onyango, made headlines when it was revealed she was an illegal immigrant living in public housing in South Boston, was wobbly legged, “slurring” and had “red and glassy eyes” when he was pulled over at 7 p.m. Wednesday on Waverly Street in Framingham.

Asked about the issue yesterday, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick said: “You know my stance: Illegal is illegal."

We shall see.

Hyping Irene in front of people enjoying the rain

It's not easy hyping this into the 'storm of the century' when all around people were just enjoying the rain.

How dare these people hinder him from trying to get that big raise for his bravery while reporting a severe storm in front of a camera?

Irene seemed to arrive just in time for Obama

Wes Pruden wrote a Washington Times article titled, Goodnight Hurricane Irene, what a floozie.

The president was ready to try anything to change the miserable trajectory of his luck. The polls were enough to ruin a week with the elites on Martha’s Vineyard.

Then, on the southern horizon, a floozie named Irene swirled into view. Hope and change looked to be arriving just in time.

The president was off to Washington a day early to take charge of the storm.

He pulled up his big boy pants and went to work.

Irene would give him a chance to show that he's not the incompetent nerd everyone is beginning to think he is.

He would dispatch the cops, the fire trucks, the rescue squads himself.

"All indications point to this being a historic hurricane," he told the nation.

He could count on the mainstream media to do the rest.

Correspondents would mimic Dan Rather bending horizontally or grabbing a lamp post on a windy beach and Anderson Cooper doing the same in New Orleans during Katrina.

How could they miss fame and fortune? After all, it got Rather out of his Houston job into a cushy position at CBS News and it got stammering Anderson Cooper his cushy job at CNN.

Imitators thought they would surely reach the same heights if they hyped the storm enough by clinging to lamp posts in front of the news cameras.

And then, just that quickly, it was over.

All the president could do on the morning after was to put aside his disappointment and call in someone to share the blame (or assume it all, if he could manage that).

Janet Napolitano, the secretary of homeland security and the wicked queen of airports everywhere, piped up with the observation that nobody was yet “out of the woods.” The president agreed there was still wrath to come, when all that rain started tumbling down the creeks and rivers, seeking release in the sea. But the explanations all amounted to thin soup.

Returning the batteries and Pop Tarts

People along the East Coast gave thanks when the storm passed by Sunday and inflicted relatively little harm. But by Monday morning, they were complaining.

Some were annoyed that they'd braved long lines to buy batteries and canned goods that they didn't end up needing.

Others were in stores demanding refunds on the extra flashlights, tarps and even junk food they'd snapped up.

Many were planning to host post-hurricane parties to get rid of all the extra food they bought, or were preparing to sell their unwanted stuff on eBay.

They have CNN and the other cable news networks to thank.

FOX, HLN and MSNBC all tried to top CNN with over-the-top storm coverage. And it wasn't just the cable news networks. Not wanting to be left out, Time Magazine online and other online publications also fueled the hype.

The problem with over-hyping a storm is that next time it may really be a 'storm of the century' and people will remember the bloated Irene coverage in August, 2011 and not take the proper precautions.

Report: One in four Democrats want to dump Obama

A Fox Nation blog entry cites a new poll by CNN and ORC International that finds 27 percent of Democrats would like to see their party nominate a candidate other than Barack Obama for president in 2012.

In response to the question, "Do you think the Democratic party should renominate Barack Obama as the party's candidate for president in 2012, or do you think the Democratic party should nominate a different candidate for president in 2012?" -- 72 percent said they wanted to see Obama renominated.

But 27 percent, slightly more than one in every four, said they wanted to see Democrats nominate a different candidate. One percent had no opinion.
