Democrats who control California's legislature lost their super majority in the state Senate on Friday when a business-friendly moderate from the state's Central Valley abruptly resigned.
Senator Michael Rubio resigned to take a job with Chevron Corp, which will leave Democrats with 26 seats in the Senate losing their super majority.
In the November election Democrats won super majorities in the Senate and Assembly allowing them to do whatever they pleased including passing tax hikes and putting constitutional amendments before voters on their own.
