From a Fox News report:
Hunters across Louisiana are outraged after state health officials ordered a rescue mission to destroy $8,000 worth of deer meat because venison is not allowed to be served in homeless shelters.
The Dept. of Health and Hospitals ordered the staff at the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission to throw 1,600 pounds of donated venison in garbage bins – and then ordered then to douse the meat with Clorox – so other animals would not eat the meat.
Venison is a health risk for the homeless Louisiana? These are people who sometimes eat from dumpsters and sleep outside. Dumpster food is healthier than venison?
Instead of venison they must eat meat from domestic animals containing fillers, preservatives and sometimes genetically modified ingredients. It may even contain pink slime and ammonia - yum (see second link below).
Maybe the real reason venison is not to be served to the public in Louisiana is because it bypasses Trade Union meat handlers.
