After 17 years in baseball, all in a Colorado Rocky uniform Helton has retired.
Todd received a standing ovation after his last at bat even though he struck out (he had a hit and a walk earlier in the game).
The applause for Helton was also a tribute to the class of Dodger fans.
During the Colorado Rockies “rebuilding years” which have been going on for several years (and is still going on) thanks to the infinite wisdom of Rocky general manager Dan O'Dowd.
Helton was a great mentor to the young players who kept arriving in O’Dowd’s never ending game of musical chairs.
Todd Helton was always attentive and helpful to the young players and some local sports writers referred to the Rockies baseball team as “Todd and the toddlers.”
