Lane Kiffin is the son of former Nebraska Husker Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin who is now the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.
When Lane Kiffin was fired last week by the Southern California Trojans, where he had been head football coach, it brought back old memories of Lincoln, Nebraska.
In 1977 we were wanting to purchase a housel in Lincoln and Monte Kiffin’s house was for sale. The Kiffin family had just left Nebraska for Arkansas where Monte became the Defensive Coordinator at the University of Arkansas.
The Kiffin house in Lincoln was empty when we toured the home. It was unique with a two story living room. The house showed evidence of rough use with some dings in some of the walls and woodwork.
It almost looked as if someone played football in the living room. It couldn’t have been Lane, who was just a baby at the time and his brother Chris wasn’t even born yet.
Maybe Monte entertained his Husker “black shirts” in the house one time too often.
Anyway, we chose to buy a new house in Colonial Hills but we often talked about the well used but very unique Kiffin house.
