My first computer was purchased in 1984. It had an 80 column screen and 64kB memory.
Some computers of the day had a 64 column screen but if all you could afford was a Vic 20 you were staring at characters nearly one half inch tall on a 20 column screen. The Vic 20 didn’t come with a monitor. It had to be connected to a b/w TV set.
The original IBM PC had only 16kB memory. Anything more had to be added by installing a bus card.
