In case you are facing a boring ween-end here is some research material, with several links shown at the end of this posting, to keep you occupied.
This involves the latest conspiracy theory - the death of Osama bin Laden.
Most conspiracy theories don’t last very long. If they do last they don’t have much credibility nor do they have a large following.
Did the Seals really do a DNA test on the man they killed? A DNA test takes several days. The Seals had a kit that supposedly confirmed his DNA in minutes. Pretty sophisticated, especially when it takes lab equip, microscopes or spectroscopes/spectrometers, centrifuges, test tubes, lab baths, chemicals and the like plus days of cultures.
How could they have established DNA proof?
Could Osama have been identified by facial recognition with no further proof? Conspiracy theorists echo a resounding no.
- The wrong man theory:
Bin Laden’s son could have been mistaken for Osama.
Hamzi Bin Laden, the equally tall son of Osama was never seen again after that night.
One of the Seals book "No Easy Day" he reveals their surprise at his physically fit body and dark hair for a man was supposedly on kidney dialysis for more than 10 years. Some sources have said Bin Laden that, although he had kindey problems, he did not require dialysis.
Experts say bin Laden was very likely injured in a 2001 battle in Tora Bora, the complex of caves in Afghanistan where U.S. forces believed members of al Qaeda were hiding.
"It does seem he may have been injured with shrapnel in Tora Bora," said Katzman. "After his escape, he wasn't able to move his arm much."
In one of his earlier videos, bin Laden appears to be immobile on his left side, but Katzman said that his injury seems to have healed based on the viewing of subsequent videos.
Officials who saw the first video he made after Tora Bora told Weaver bin Laden appeared to be in very bad health because part of his body seemed motionless.
"I've traveled through some of the parts of Pakistan he was believed to have been. He was moving around in very rugged and inhospitable terrain. A man can't be that frail in health to sustain that," said Weaver.
"There's no way to know for sure who he really was. The only way to tell would be an autopsy."
Previous similarly high-profile killings have been backed up by concrete evidence, including photographs of Uday and Qusay Hussein, the sons of Saddam Hussein, were released by US authorities to prove their deaths. When Saddam himself was executed, video footage and photographs were used to give final proof of his demise.
There was one photo on the Internet that was purported to be a death photo of Osama bin Laden. It was a gruesome, bloody photo that was quickly pronounced a fake.
Conspiracy theorists are quick to point out that the death of Osama just before the re-election of Barack Obama was important. Important enough to fake the death of a man who was already dead.
The Obama re-election campaign championed the slogan, “Osama is dead but GM is alive!”
Here at the ‘cave’ we do not subscribe to the Osama conspiracy theory nor do we discount it completely.
