The city of Detroit has seen an increase in history buffs and photographers visiting its ruins since the bankruptcy filing last summer.

In most places when buildings become dilapidated and abandoned they are demolished and the area is rebuilt.
Not in Detroit.
The city estimates it has 78,000 vacant structures, and demolishing each derelict residential building costs $8,000 — money the bankrupt city can't afford.

Photographers have flocked to the city to capture the decline; two French photographers even produced a book, "The Ruins of Detroit."

One man ventured through the city taking photos of derelict buildings and selling them at an artists market.
Safety is a concern because of carjackings and assaults.
Will portions of Gary, Indiana and St. Louis, Missouri be next?
