Facebook admits teens are tiring of the social network

A Daily Mail report says Facebook has made the startling admission that teenagers are becoming bored with the social networking giant.

Facing competition from younger, more agile and 'cooler' apps such as Snapchat and Instagram, Facebook fears its long-term business could be harmed.

And as Facebook approaches its tenth anniversary the firm published its annual 10-K report last month revealing that its younger users are increasingly turning away from the multi-billion dollar business.

Published last month, the annual company report states, 'We believe that some of our users, particularly our younger users, are aware of and actively engaging with other products and services similar to, or as a substitute for, Facebook.

Huge online company hacked: asks 50 million customers to redo passwords

The year 2013 may become known as the year of the hacker.

Following successful hacks of Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, and NBC's websites and servers, the servers of the popular multi-platform, note-taking web company Evernote have been hacked.

Evernote is requiring all its 50 million users to reset their passwords.

the company reminds all Evernote users of the usual precautions you should take with your security on any web service:

Avoid using simple passwords based on dictionary words.

Never use the same password on multiple sites or services.

Never click on "reset password" requests in emails — instead, go directly to the service.

Also, choosing the option to stay logged into Evernote for up to a week at a time is not a safe choice.

Where did the name QWERTY come from? How about the name Blog?

The name QWERTY, used to describe a computer keyboard, comes from the first six letters in the top alphabet row (the one just below the numbers) as shown below.

Long before computers came along, a typewriter keyboard was called the "Universal."

The keyboard was the work of inventor C. L. Sholes, who put together the prototypes of the first commercial typewriter in a Milwaukee machine shop back in the 1860's.

Now it’s called the QWERTY keyboard.

A Silicon Valley dirty little secret is haunting Google buildings

Toxic vapors are seeping up from underneath two Google buildings in Silicon Valley.

TCE, or trichloroethylene vapors were detected at the company’s offices in Mountain View.

Two of Google’s buildings, which sit on North Whisman road, sit on top of property used by Fairchild Semiconductor, Intel, Raytheon, and other computer chip makers.

The problem began when the chip makers dumped thousands of gallons of the toxic solvent into the ground, contaminating the water.

Poll: Americans abandoning Facebook in droves

The report at the link below says a new Pew Research Center poll finds that a huge group of users, 61 percent, are taking breaks from Facebook up to "several weeks" long, and that virtually all age groups are decreasing their time on the social media.

Most devastating: 38 percent of users aged 18-29, the focus of advertisers on the site, plan to slash their time on Facebook this year.

The poll did, however, find that 67 percent of online adults are Facebook users, a sign of just how important the website is to American life.

But the poll also found that many users seem to be getting bored with Facebook. Besides the 61 percent who report taking long breaks from it, 42 percent of those aged 18-29, 34 percent of those 30-49, and 23 percent of users 50 and over have decreased their time on Facebook over the last year.

We use Facebook but many times we don’t log on to the site for a week to ten days at a time.

Although we enjoy the photos of relatives, especially grandchildren, it’s the ‘grand announcements’ of daily life such as ate Cheerios with bananas or made cookies today that are as needless as they are boring.

Another dislike we have are constantly repeated affirmations and there is always that Facebook friend who posts dozens of “shared” content but little or no content of their own.

There are people who constantly post links to various web content. If they want to share data from various web sites maybe they would be better served by starting a blog.
