European scientists want Bigfoot hair samples

European researchers are planning to use new techniques to analyze DNA that could help crack the mystery of whether Bigfoot exists.

In a project announced this week, Oxford University and Lausanne Museum of Zoology scientists appealed to museums, scientists and yeti aficionados to share samples thought to be from the mythical ape-like creature.

The photo shows Jonathan Doyle wearing a Bigfoot costume on New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock as reported at the second link below.

The European researchers are probably not interested in hair samples from Doyle’s costume even thought that may be as close to a Bigfoot hair sample as they’ll get.

So far about all Bigfoot believers have are a few stories of dubious sightings and plaster castings of large tracks left in soft ground.

Provocative global warming billboards

A free market think tank is taking its beef with climate change alarmists to billboards in Chicago.

The Heartland Institute has announced a billboard campaign highlighting the unsavory characters who “still believe in global warming,” including “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski, mass murderer Charles Manson and dictator Fidel Castro.

According to Heartland, terrorist Osama bin Laden and Discovery Channel hostage taker James J. Lee may also occupy a climate change billboard in the near future.

The billboard shown above starred Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber whose manifesto expressed his belief in catastrophic man-caused global warming.

The billboard campaign was intended to coincide with the 7th International Conference on Climate Change set for May 21-23 in Chicago.

Not all global warming alarmists are murderers or tyrants. But the Climategate scandal and the more recent Fakegate scandal revealed that the leaders of the global warming movement are willing to break the law and the rules of ethics to shut down scientific debate and implement their left-wing agendas.

The Heartland Institute found it interesting that the ad seemed to evoke reactions more passionate than when leading alarmists compare climate realists to Nazis or declare they are imposing on our children a mass death sentence.

Öetzi the 5300-year-old mummy gives up worlds oldest blood

Scientists have discovered the world’s oldest blood cells in in Öetzi -- the remains of a 5,300-year-old iceman found in Italy.

The scientists found traces of blood around an arrow wound that killed the man in the mountains of what is now the Alto-Adige region of northern Italy. “Öetzi the iceman” was discovered in 1991 at 3,200 metres in a glacier by hikers in the German-speaking region near the border with Austria.

His remains were so well preserved that scientists have estimated he was 45-years-old at the time he was killed.

Öetzi was named for the Ötztal Alps where he was found in 1991.

The mummified body is kept in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy.

Giant flea found that fed on dinosaur blood like a mosquito

Chinese scientists have found a giant "flea-like" insect that would cling to the soft underbelly of a dinosaur to feed on its blood like a mosquito.

These insects, similar but not identical to modern fleas, were probably 10 times the size of a flea you might find crawling on the family dog -- with an extra-painful bite to match. Chinese scientists have stumbled on remarkable fossils of these creatures.

This insect was much larger than the modern flea and from the size of its stinger scientists can tell they would have been mean.

"You wouldn't talk much about the good old days if you got bit by this insect," Poinar said. "It would have felt about like a hypodermic needle going in - a flea shot, if not a flu shot. We can be thankful our modern fleas are not nearly this big."

Poinar, who is an international expert in ancient and extinct insect life forms, said it's possible that the soft-bodied, flea-like insects found in these fossils from Inner Mongolia are the evolutionary ancestors of modern fleas, but most likely they belong to a separate and now extinct lineage, according to an Oregon statement.

Scientists discover secret behind pigeons’ GPS

It's baffled scientists for centuries, but now researchers at a University in Texas claim they've discovered the secret behind the built-in GPS that tells pigeons exactly where they are in the world.

A team at Baylor College of Medicine placed seven of the birds - famed for their navigational skills - in an artificial magnetic field and tricked them into thinking they were being transported.

They then watched as different parts of the pigeons' brains lit up and came to the conclusion the birds are able to build and store complex maps in their brains.

Albert Einstein’s complete archives — from personal correspondence with half a dozen lovers to notebooks scribbled with his groundbreaking scientific research — are going online for the first time.

Menachem Ben Sasson, president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, owner of the Einstein papers, said "Knowledge is not about hiding. It's about openness."

The First Board of Governors of the Hebrew University included Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud.

Chance discovery: antibiotics alleviate symptoms of schizophrenia

A chance discovery of a link between acne drug and psychosis may help unlock secrets of mental illness.

A cheap antibiotic normally prescribed to teenagers for acne is to be tested as a treatment to alleviate the symptoms of psychosis in patients with schizophrenia, in a trial that could advance scientific understanding of the causes of mental illness.

The antibiotic medication is minocycline which is used to treat infections, such as urinary tract infections, and acne.

The weapon was a marshmallow gun invented by 14-year-old Joey Hudy shown above with the cannon.
