With apologies to Back to the Future fans the DeLorean DMC-12 is said by many to be one of the worst cars of all time.
The DeLorean DMC-12 or, as it’s commonly referred to, simply “The DeLorean,” is a strange animal. On the one hand, it’s nearly universally known and adored (among people who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, at least) as that car from Back to the Future, but on the other, it was literally the only car creator John DeLorean was ever able to sell – and he didn’t even sell that many of them.
The DeLorean was powered by a Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRV) 2.85 L (174 cu in) SOHC V6 engine.

With apologies to Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, the DeLorean did not leave the factory with a flux capacitor. A flux capacitor was that fictional piece of technology that allows time travel in the science-fiction film series Back to the Future.
The body of the DeLorean was brushed stainless steel and the cars left the factory uncovered by paint or clearcoat.
Over its two-year lifespan, there were only about 9,000 DeLorean DMC-12s ever produced. The car was quite pricey for its time; originally expected to sell for $12,000 (hence its name). However, the DMC-12 ended up costing $25,000 – more than $65,000 today.
DeLorean Motor Cars, Ltd. (DMCL) factory was located in Dunmurry, Belfast, Northern Ireland. DeLorean auto production ended in 1983.
John DeLorean died on March 19, 2005 at age 80.
The resurrected DeLorean Motor Company, transplanted from Northern Ireland to Texas and under new management, has once again opened up its order books.October, 2016.
