New Bill Would Require Warning Labels on Apps Made by China, Russia

Congress is considering new legislation that would require warning labels on smartphone applications made in countries the United States deems a national security threat, including China, Russia, and Iran.

The legislation would require app store operators to inform Americans before they download an application that could surreptitiously collect their data and send it to an enemy state.

"This bill will help inform us as to what exactly we're agreeing to when we hit the download button on some apps on the app store," Banks told the Washington Free Beacon. "If an app is being used by a foreign government to take advantage of us, we need to be informed."

Breathing new life into a tired old Toshiba laptop

Several years ago we saw a Toshiba laptop on a sale shelf at Best Buy. It was an ‘open box’ item that had been returned. The price was nicely discounted and we were attracted to the large 17“ screen.

It came with Windows 8 which dates the machine to before July 2015 when Windows 10 was released.Remember Windows 8 and the very un-charming Charms Bar? We thought Windows Vusta was better than Windows 8.

The Toshiba came with an AMD A6 processor which seemed adequate at that time.

We just had the hard drive replaced with a solid state drive (SSD). What a difference! Like putting a Hemi engine in a Kia Rio!.

Do you use Geek Squad at Best Buy for computer service and/or repair?

We wanted to make an appointment to take a laptop to Best Buy to replace the hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD).

When we tried to make the appointment online we got the ‘full screen’ warning shown above. The warning was from WEBROOT, the anti-virus soft wear that Best Buy promotes.

The warning said a phishing problem was detected on the Best Buy website!

We made the appointment by phone and will take them a copy of the screen grab shown above when we show up for our appointment.

Hollywood actor James Woods (pictured below) was banned from using Twitter because of his conservative political Tweets. Horrors! A Hollywood actor posting conservative Tweets? Can’t have that! Ban him! Twitter has also bannes other prominent conservative users.

And so it goes for many high-profile politically conservative Twitter users. Will some of this change if Jack Dorsey is no longer calling the shots at Twitter? With Dorsey out maybe the politically bias practice of “shadow banning” will end.

What happened to Matt Drudge?

It’s one of the questions you’re not supposed to ask in public but everyone talks about in private: What’s going on with Matt Drudge?

For conservatives, the Drudge Report was a one-stop shop for news on the Internet starting in the late 1990s. When Matt first broke the scandal involving the President of the United States and an intern, his place at the top of alternative media, as it was called then, was secured.

Matt Drudge worked the Bill Clinton - Monica Lewinsky scandal nearly non-stop to the delight of his newly found conservative readers.

The Drudge Report grew steadily until it became a leading conservative website.

As always, imitators followed. But none came close to combing as many news outlets and boiling down the essence of stories like Drudge.

That was his magic – he’d plow through stories and find the nugget buried 20 paragraphs down, then he’d rewrite the headline to reflect what the liberal outlets wanted to hide.

It wasn’t just Matt. When things blew up, he had help. Andrew Breitbart learned how to do the same by working for Drudge – a skeleton crew surfing the web, arming conservatives with the pieces of information the mainstream outlets wanted buried.

But now that has all changed. The entire tone of the Drudge Report has changed. Stories about Trump’s failures, impeachment, and Democratic talking points dominate the coverage of the president.

The Drudge report now looks more like an anti-trump hit blog, Why the change is anybody’s guess. Did Trump tweak his nose in a tweet or two about his sexual preferences?

Whatever the reason the audience that has made Matt Drudge a multimillionaire would like to know what it is. Since Drudge answers to no one, it’s unlikely we’ll ever know.

While never a big Chevrolet fan I must admit the ‘52 Chevy would start with just one quick push on the stater even on the coldest mornings while the Plymouth station wagon was a hard starter even though parked safely in the garage.

Rich Silicon Valley liberals to host a ‘Poverty Simulation’

Residents of Cupertino, Calif., and the surrounding enclaves populated by wealthy liberals will soon have the opportunity to attend a government-sponsored "poverty simulation" designed to educate participants on "the reality of a Silicon Valley that grows in disparity as much as prosperity."

The event will take place on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cupertino Senior Center. During the two-hour simulation, participants will "work to overcome barriers to social services, live off insufficient income, and encounter unforeseen economic obstacles along the way," according to the City of Cupertino website.

Cupertino, site of Apple headquarters, has a median household income of more than $150,000—well above the national median of $60,000. Users of the popular social-networking website Twitter, which is headquartered about an hour's drive away in San Francisco, have noted the absurdity of rich, tech-industry liberals who have turned a once-great city (San Francisco) into an unlivable hellscape in turn having little to offer in terms of actual solutions beyond a "simulation" designed to allow its rich, liberal attendees to publicly express their opposition to poverty.

They oppose poverty but won’t do anything meaningful about it preferring to clutch their wealth tightly to themselves and look the other way.

Microsoft’s new Xbox Adaptive Controller

This year, Microsoft announced a surprise project called the Xbox Adaptive Controller,

This controller could open whole new world to gamers with disabilities as shown in photo below.

It features two oversize buttons that are easy to hit, not just with dexterous fingers but any appendage. It features an additional 19 ports for people to plug in any specialized controllers they might need, from sip and puff sensors to more easily graspable arcade joysticks.
